Drawing members of the English National Ballet company in their rehearsal studios is an intensely affecting experience. When I cross the threshold of Markova House I enter their home. I am not a member of an audience, but instead an observer: receptive and responsive but non-intrusive. This is a place of great dedication, concentration and of aspiration.

I feel privileged to be a guest in their creative space, drawing spontaneously with both hands with ink, charcoal and conte. While The pastels, paintings and collages are developed in my studio after witnessing dancers in either their morning exercise class, rehearsals or performing a number of different ballets, including ‘Firebird’, ‘The Rite of Spring’,‘Le Jeune Homme et la Mort’ and ‘Lest we Forget’.
