These paintings are a response to the countries and cultures that have absorbed my interest, the seas and the landscapes I love. There is the dark side of the Madagascar sun in the large red paintings, the light of the Mediterranean in others. The immensity of Alaska and Canada play their part, as do the rich mix of colours found in Morocco. Central to my vision is the magic hour in Andalucia when the sun is low in the sky and the light seems to come from the land.

“It [colour] penetrates so deeply and so gently into me. I feel it and it gives me confidence in myself without effort. Colour possesses me, I don’t have to pursue it… Colour and I are one.” - Paul Klee
